For unexpected new possibilities.
Today I made a perfect omelette. This never happens, so I was pretty excited. And the cat was a bit friendlier. So Yay on that.
I am perpetually one day behind. Second day of classes went well. Took myself out for a glass of wine when it was over.
Today I am grateful for colleagues who let me shadow them in active, useful ways; for my brain (which has, it transpires, retained *some* knowledge); and especially for legs which are still mostly upright after a pretty full-on day. Went for a 4.5 mile run yesterday and expected to struggle today, so I’m feeling quite pleased with myself.
For colleagues and students who are understanding when you make the silliest of mistakes.
Today this poem really grabbed me:
It was passed from one bird to another,
the whole gift of the day.
The day went from flute to flute,
went dressed in vegetation,
in flights which opened a tunnel
through the wind would pass
to where birds were breaking open
the dense blue air –
and there, night came in.
When I returned from so many journeys,
I stayed suspended and green
between sun and geography –
I saw how wings worked,
how perfumes are transmitted
by feathery telegraph,
and from above I saw the path,
the springs and the roof tiles,
the fishermen at their trades,
the trousers of the foam;
I saw it all from my green sky.
I had no more alphabet
than the swallows in their courses,
the tiny, shining water
of the small bird on fire
which dances out of the pollen.
For local, independent bookstores who bring amazing authors to the Valley. I’m particularly excited about an upcoming event, because I met the author a decade ago in a remove village in Alaska. I’m overcome with emotion recalling the amazing adventures and people I experienced along the way.
For knitting. It had actually been months since I had done any, just wasn’t feeling it. This evening, I picked it up again and started a new project and it feels great!
Though this day’s slid some in the evening, it was, overall, a really nice day. It was nice to do something positive and not hospital-related in any way, shape or form.
